The Influence of Influencers

Social media plays a large role in many young adult's lives. For some, however, it's their career. Influencers are typically young adults who have a large following on a social platform. This platform can be focused on a niche subject such as health, fashion or beauty. People become influencers by creating valuable content. They have a regular audience that cares about the influencer's tips, opinions and recommendations. Many influencers receive over six figures for promoting brands and companies on their platforms because of this.

So why is being an influencer so lucrative? Big companies as well as boutiques are shelling out money to have a person feature a product on social media. This is because companies would rather invest in marketing to those within their established target audience rather than pay to broadcast an advertisement to and cast a large net with little to no interest. In fact, 51% of marketers believe they acquire better customers through influencer marketing. Influencer marketing allows brands to cut through the noise of today's ad-filled world while also appearing more authentic and leading to more engagement.

Influencer marketing is one of the fastest growing online customer-acquisition channels in 2017, beating out organic search, paid search and email marketing. A recent survey revealed 84% of marketers plan on executing at least one influencer marketing campaign in the next 12 months. Consumers can expect to see influencers of all niches to earn some big money in the near future as social media evolves into a social marketplace.
